StoneWater Acupuncture & Chiropractic has set in place further steps to protect patients at this time and continues to follow all recommendations issued by the CDC and local health offices in response to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
The number one goal right now is to reduce the rate of spread, "Flatten-the-Curve". Though COVID-19 poses minimal risk to most populations and may only cause minor cold symptoms, for those 60 years old and older there is a serious risk of pneumonia requiring medical attention.
Thus the CDC is recommending the following steps be taken at this time by the general public:
Stay Home if feeling sick and self Quarantine
Wear a facemask if tolerated when leaving your house.
Reduce exposure to the general public and large gatherings where viruses can be easily transmitted person to person
Wash your hands frequently, especially after being in public, before eating, and after handling for or using the restroom.
Stay calm and don't give in to hoarding behaviors as it takes resources away from medical personal that require supplies to stay healthy themselves and to continue providing care and prevent further spread of the disease.
Now let's answer a few common questions that have been asked by patients:
Should I stop care right now?
No, StoneWater is set up for one-on-one care and we do not see large numbers of people at once, I am able to sanitize thoroughly before and after patient visits. However, just like before, if you are ill prior to your appointment, please call to reschedule and rest.
Can Acupuncture or Chiropractic help if I come down with COVID-19?
We don't have the data to say yes or no, because COVID-19 is new there has not been enough time to determine what treatment measures are the best to help support patient recovery, that is not to say that acupuncture hasn't been shown effective in managing symptoms associated with similar viruses. However, the goal right now is to flatten the curve. Because most patients will not need supportive care to recover from COVID-19 we are following the CDC guidelines and advising patients that are ill are to stay home and to call their Primary Care Physician to coordinate care as needed. This is especially true if you are at high risk of complications.
Can Acupuncture and Chiropractic be utilized as a preventative for COVID-19?
Acupuncture and Chiropractic have not been shown to prevent COVID-19.
However, if you use acupuncture or chiropractic to reduce stress, improve mobility, and incorporate either as part of your wellness routine to maintain better health overall then we encourage you to do so. Fortifying and improving your overall health is associated with better outcomes when faced with illnesses in general.
